Southwick Fine Jewelry Consignment offers a new concept
for buyers and sellers of fine jewelry.
Our family owned shop located in quaint downtown Natick, Massachusettes offers our clientele a retail store where they can showcase their jewelry they no longer wear. For our buying clientele, they now have the opportunity to purchase one of a kind pieces from all over the world and from many eras in time.
Pre-owned jewelry offers value to our buyers because the jewelry has already depreciated once it left the traditional retail environment. Also, it is the working nature of our shop to "move" merchandise quickly and in volume allowing us to work with very small mark-ups.
How does Jewelry Consignment work?
We recommend you call ahead to schedule an appointment to meet with our Gems and Jewelry Appraiser and Graduate Gemologist. While you watch and wait, they will appraise your jewelry using state of the art gemological equipment and evaluate your items based on industry standards. We then suggest a sale price based on the quality, rarity, trends, gold/platinum price, condition, and market climate. However, in some instances, antique and/or designer jewelry requires our appraisers to seek comparables from major auction houses and/or websites such as Tiffany and Company, Cartier, David Yurman , etc. In this case, we will give you a preliminary sale price with your item marked "pre-sell" until our research confirms a fair purchase price. Pre-sell allows our buyers a chance to view your item and lay it away until the sale price is established and a contract is signed. Research takes anywhere from 3 to 5 business days. Once we agree on a final sale price, the piece(s) are cleaned and sometimes polished and put in our showcase for display.
What is the percentage?
The seller (consignor) receives 65% of the sale price. Checks are written within 2 weeks of the sale. If an item does not sell by the end of the term (6 months), we call to have you come pick up your piece(s). There is never any charge for unsold items. It is hard to predict what kind of pieces will sell and when. We have a very high traffic store and sell jewelry everyday. Some items move quicker than others. We ask for you patience as our professionally trained sales team works hard to sell your item to the "right" new owner.
Is there a formal agreement between sellers (consignors) and your store (consignees)?
Absolutely. We have a contract that explains the terms of the agreement. Please feel free to call or visit our store to review this paperwork. We will soon post it on-line for your convenience.
What kind of pieces do you consider for consignment?
We only carry 'Fine' jewelry made up of gold or platinum and genuine gemstones. We do not consider any costume jewelry or poorly manufactured pieces. We want to deliver the best quality to our buyers by maintaining a certain quality standard.
Do you ever buy jewelry outright?
We buy unwanted scrap gold jewelry on the spot.
We look forward to working with you!
